Sreemangal sits on the Dhaka–Sylhet main line in Moulvibazar district. All four Dhaka–Sylhet intercity trains stop here, so you share each Dhaka to Sreemangal train with Sylhet passengers. That is why seats can vanish fast on Thursdays, Fridays and before long holidays.
Dhaka to Sreemangal Train Schedule 2026
All four intercity trains start at Kamalapur and stop at Dhaka Airport about half an hour later. The table shows scheduled arrival times at Sreemangal station. We checked them against recent timetable listings based on the official Bangladesh Railway timetable, updated in August and October 2026.
Table: Dhaka to Sreemangal train schedule (intercity trains)
| Train name & number | Departure (Kamalapur) | Arrival (Sreemangal) | Off day | Journey time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Parabat Express (709) | 6:30 AM | 10:32 AM | Monday | 4 h 02 min |
| Jayantika Express (717) | 11:15 AM | 4:01 PM | Tuesday | 4 h 46 min |

| Upaban Express (739) | 10:00 PM | 2:09 AM (next day) | Wednesday | 4 h 09 min |
Kalni Express is the quickest on paper, at just under four hours. Jayantika Express is the slowest of the four. Trains in Bangladesh often run 30 to 90 minutes late, so use these arrival times as a guide, not a promise.
Some older blogs show Parabat with a Tuesday off day or Kalni arriving at 7:02 PM. The newest listings show Monday and 6:52 PM, so check the app on the day you travel.
Surma Mail: the slow, low-cost option
Surma Mail (9) leaves Kamalapur at 9:00 PM and reaches Sreemangal early the next morning. Timetable sites differ on the exact time, showing about 5:40 AM to 6:00 AM. It stops at many small stations and can be very crowded. The full Dhaka–Sylhet mail fare is Tk 140, so the Sreemangal fare is lower. Check at station for the exact time and fare.
Boarding at Dhaka Airport station
If you live in Uttara, Banani or near Tongi, board at Dhaka Airport (Biman Bandar) station and pick it as your “From” station when you book. One recent listing shows Parabat there at about 6:58 AM, Jayantika at 11:43 AM, Kalni at 3:22 PM and Upaban at 10:28 PM. Reach the platform 15 minutes early, because trains stop there only for a short time.
Sreemangal to Dhaka Train Schedule 2026
The same four trains bring you back. Each Sreemangal to Dhaka train below shows the departure time from Sreemangal and the arrival time at Kamalapur.

Table: Sreemangal to Dhaka train schedule (intercity trains)
| Train name & number | Departure (Sreemangal) | Arrival (Kamalapur) | Off day | Journey time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Upaban Express (740) | 1:44 AM | 5:40 AM | Monday | 3 h 56 min |
| Kalni Express (774) | 8:20 AM | 12:55 PM | Friday | 4 h 35 min |
| Jayantika Express (718) | 2:45 PM | 7:15 PM | Thursday | 4 h 30 min |
| Parabat Express (710) | 6:02 PM | 10:40 PM | Monday | 4 h 38 min |
Off days are not always the same in both directions. Jayantika is off on Tuesday from Dhaka but on Thursday on the way back. Upaban is off on Wednesday from Dhaka and on Monday from Sreemangal. Check the off day for your direction before you book a Sreemangal to Dhaka train.
Surma Mail (10) is the slowest Sreemangal to Dhaka train. It leaves Sreemangal around midnight and reaches Kamalapur at about 9:55 AM. Listings differ on its exact departure time, so confirm it at the station counter before you plan around it.
Dhaka to Sreemangal Train Fare by Seat Class
Train fares in Bangladesh depend on distance and seat class, not on the train name. So the Dhaka to Sreemangal train fare for a Snigdha seat is the same on Parabat and Kalni. The table shows the fares that recent timetable and travel listings give for this 231 km trip.

Table: Dhaka to Sreemangal train fare per adult, one way (listed fares)
| Seat class (code) | What you get | Listed fare |
|---|---|---|
| Shovan Chair (S_CHAIR) | Non-AC padded chair | Tk 275 |
| First Class Seat (F_SEAT) | Non-AC seat in a closed cabin | Tk 420 |
| Snigdha (SNIGDHA) | AC chair coach | Tk 524 |
| AC Seat (AC_S) | Seat in an AC cabin | Tk 627 |
| AC Berth (AC_B) | Sleeping berth in an AC cabin | About Tk 935 |
| Surma Mail | Basic seat | Check at station |
Please read this part. On 20 December 2025, Bangladesh Railway added a bridge (pontage) charge on six Eastern-zone routes, and Dhaka–Sylhet is one of them. Every 100 metres of long bridge now counts as 2.5 km of extra distance. Sreemangal is on that line, so today’s fare may be a little higher than the listed figures. The e-ticket website shows the exact amount before you pay.
For comparison, the full Dhaka–Sylhet fare is now Tk 410 for Shovan Chair and Tk 1,465 for AC Berth, as shown in our Dhaka to Sylhet train ticket price guide. Your Sreemangal fare is always lower, because the trip is about 88 km shorter.
Some old blogs still show Tk 240 for Shovan Chair. That figure comes from an older official fare chart, made when the railway still gave a discount on long trips. That discount ended in May 2024. Online tickets add Tk 20 per seat, and children aged 3 to 12 need a cheaper child ticket.
Which classes each train carries
Parabat usually carries Shovan Chair, Snigdha, AC cabin and non-AC cabin coaches. Upaban has AC Berth, Snigdha and Shovan Chair, which makes it the best pick if you want to sleep. Kalni has Snigdha and Shovan Chair. The booking page shows only the classes open on your train and date.
Stations on the Way to Sreemangal

Things to Do in Sreemangal After Your Train Arrives
Sreemangal is known as the tea capital of Bangladesh because of the many tea gardens around the town. Most visitors come for green hills, forest walks and a cup of local tea. Here are the top places to plan around your Dhaka to Sreemangal train.

Lawachara National Park
Lawachara National Park is about 8 km from Sreemangal town. It covers about 1,250 hectares and became a national park in 1996. It is home to the endangered western hoolock gibbon. A railway line, roads and power lines also pass through the forest, so walk with a guide and stay on the trails.
Tea gardens and the Tea Research Institute
Tea estates begin right at the edge of town, and the rows of tea bushes make great photos in morning light. The Bangladesh Tea Research Institute is also based in Sreemangal and works on tea quality. Ask before you walk into private garden areas.
Seven-colour tea
Sreemangal is where the famous seven-layer (seven-colour) tea started. A local tea seller, Romesh Ram Gour, is credited with creating it. Try one glass, take a photo, and drink it slowly to taste each layer.
Lakes, wetlands and a waterfall
Madhabpur Lake is a popular day trip and is known for the rare White-bellied Heron. Baikka Beel is a wetland loved by birdwatchers. The Hum Hum waterfall in the Rajkandi forest needs a longer hike, so start early in the day.
Sreemangal Station and Hotel Tips
- Getting around: CNG auto-rickshaws wait near the station and can take you to hotels, resorts and Lawachara. Agree on the fare before you get in.
- Book your room first: Hotels and resorts fill up on weekends and holidays. Book the room before you buy the train ticket, or on the same day.
- Late arrivals: Upaban reaches at about 2:09 AM. Tell your hotel in advance, save its phone number and avoid walking alone at night.
- Return ticket: Buy your Sreemangal to Dhaka train ticket as soon as sales open, 10 days ahead. Return seats on Fridays and Saturdays sell out quickly.
- Weather: May and June are the wettest months, and January is the driest. Carry an umbrella in the rains and a light jacket in winter.
Travel Tips and How to Track Your Train
- Book at 8:00 AM: Log in a few minutes early, 10 days before your trip. Snigdha seats on Parabat go first.
- Eid rush: Eid tickets sell out within minutes. In recent Eid seasons they were announced as non-refundable.
- Arrive early: Reach Kamalapur at least 30 minutes before departure. Platforms can change.
- Expect delays: A Dhaka to Sreemangal train can run 30 to 90 minutes late. Carry water, snacks and a charged phone.
- Carry your ID: Keep the e-ticket and the ID you used to register.
- Rainy season: Heavy rain and floods have stopped Sylhet-line trains in some years. Check the news before you travel in the monsoon.
To see where your train is, type TR, a space and the train number, then send it to 16318. For example, send TR 709 for Parabat from Dhaka or TR 774 for Kalni on the Sreemangal to Dhaka train run. A small operator fee applies. Our train tracking guide shows more ways to follow a train live.
You can also call the railway hotline 131. Tracking is very useful at Sreemangal, because you can wait at your hotel instead of on the platform.
