Metro Rail Schedule 2026: First & Last Train Times Today

This guide covers MRT Line-6, the only metro line now running in Bangladesh. It is run by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). You will find first and last train times from both ends, Friday hours, how often trains come, Eid and Ramadan rules, journey times and simple tips. We also show how to connect the metro with Bangladesh Railway trains.

These times come from DMTCL announcements reported by national newspapers. The latest change came on 7 June 2026, when DMTCL moved the last trains 20 minutes later. The morning start times have stayed the same since 19 October 2025.

Daily ridership is now around 425,000 to 450,000 people. That is why a good plan matters. A few minutes can decide whether you get a seat or stand all the way to Motijheel.

Metro Rail Time Schedule: Saturday to Thursday

Most people ride on working days, so this is the metro rail time schedule you will use most. From Saturday to Thursday, the same first and last train times apply at both ends of the line.

DirectionFirst trainLast trainJourney time
Uttara North to Motijheel6:30 AM9:50 PMAbout 33 to 40 min
Motijheel to Uttara North7:15 AM10:30 PMAbout 33 to 40 min

Remember that this metro rail schedule shows departure times from the two end stations. Trains reach middle stations such as Agargaon, Farmgate or Shahbagh some minutes later. If you board in the middle of the line, add the travel time from the nearest end.

Morning trains

The day begins at Uttara North, near the Diabari depot at the northern end of the line. The first train from Motijheel leaves 45 minutes later, at 7:15 AM. If you live near Motijheel or Dilkusha and start work early, plan your morning around that train.

Office workers heading south from Uttara and Mirpur fill the trains between 7:30 AM and 10 AM. If you can leave home before 7:30 AM, you will usually find more space.

Night trains

The last train from Uttara North leaves at 9:50 PM. The last train from Motijheel leaves at 10:30 PM. When the last Motijheel train left at 10:10 PM, it reached Uttara North at around 10:45 PM. So the 10:30 PM train should reach Uttara a little after 11 PM.

In mid-2026, DMTCL was also studying another 20 to 30 minute extension at night. That could push the last Motijheel train to 11:00 PM. It was not confirmed when we checked, so treat 10:30 PM as the latest safe time in this metro rail time schedule.

Friday Metro Rail Schedule

Friday is the weekly holiday, so the Friday metro rail schedule is shorter. There are no morning trains. Service starts in the afternoon and ends earlier at night.

Friday metro rail time schedule for Uttara North and Motijheel stations in Dhaka
DirectionFirst trainLast train
Uttara North to Motijheel3:00 PM9:00 PM
Motijheel to Uttara North3:20 PM9:40 PM

Friday service began on 20 September 2024. From 17 January 2025, DMTCL moved the Friday start from 3:30 PM to 3:00 PM. When the weekday hours changed in October 2025, DMTCL said Friday timings would stay the same.

During the Eid-ul-Azha holiday in May 2026, Friday ticket sales opened at 2:45 PM at Uttara North and 3:05 PM at Motijheel. That fits the same Friday pattern. The June 2026 night extension was reported for regular days only, so check the station notice board on Friday evening.

When Friday service started, trains came about every 12 minutes. The evening rush after 5 PM is similar on Fridays and Saturdays, so expect full trains if you go out for shopping or family visits.

How Often Trains Run on the Metro Rail Schedule

The gap between two trains is called headway. DMTCL changes it through the day. Trains come more often at rush hour and less often when the line is quiet. The table below shows typical gaps.

Time of dayTypical gapNotes
Morning and evening rush (working days)About 6 to 10 minutesThe 2025 timetable used 6, 8 and 10 minute gaps
Quiet hours in the middle of the dayAbout 10 to 15 minutesSame range used in the Ramadan 2026 timetable
Friday afternoon and eveningAbout 12 minutesFigure from when Friday service began
Eid holiday weekAbout 12 to 15 minutesUsed during Eid-ul-Azha 2026
Last trains at nightAbout 10 to 20 minutesExtra night trips were added in June 2026

The metro rail time schedule does not list every train by the minute. DMTCL publishes the first and last trains and the usual gap. So you simply go to the station and wait a few minutes for the next train.

In September 2025, DMTCL said it planned to cut rush-hour gaps to around 4 minutes and cut other gaps by about 2 minutes. Officials say the system can run a train every 3.5 minutes. We could not confirm a final new headway, so use the ranges above as a guide.

In the 2024 timetable, the busy periods were roughly 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM to 8:30 PM. These hours have the most trains, but also the biggest crowds.

Metro Rail Schedule on Eid, Ramadan and Holidays

Holidays change the metro rail time schedule more than any other event. DMTCL usually publishes a special notice a few days before each long holiday.

Dhaka metro holiday rules for Eid day, Eid week and Ramadan travel

Eid day

The metro does not run on Eid day. This rule has applied to both Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha. In 2026, Eid-ul-Azha fell on 28 May, and the metro was closed on that day only.

Eid holiday week

On the other days of the 2026 Eid-ul-Azha holiday (25 to 31 May), trains ran from 6:30 AM at Uttara North and 7:15 AM at Motijheel. The last trains left at 9:30 PM and 10:10 PM, the normal times then. DMTCL ran about 140 trips a day with seven train sets.

Single-journey tickets were sold from 6:40 AM to 9:20 PM during that holiday. Rapid Pass and MRT Pass cards could be recharged as usual.

Ramadan

In Ramadan 2026, first and last trains stayed the same as the normal metro rail time schedule. Trains ran every 8 to 10 minutes at peak time and every 10 to 15 minutes at other times. Fasting passengers could carry a water bottle of up to 250 ml for iftar. Eating on trains, platforms and concourses is not allowed.

Saturday and public holidays

Saturday and government holidays keep the same first and last train times. However, the gap between trains can be longer because fewer people travel. For Puja, Victory Day or other special days, check the DMTCL notice before you go.

Journey Time Between Key Stations

A timetable is only half the story. You also need to know how long the ride takes. These journey times come from DMTCL estimates and reports of real trips.

TripAbout how longNote
Uttara North to Motijheel (full line)33 to 40 minutesThe first through train took 33 minutes in November 2023
Uttara North to AgargaonUp to 20 minutesEstimate when the first section opened
Agargaon to MotijheelAbout 14 minutesEstimate when the second section opened
Pallabi to MotijheelA little over 20 minutesPassenger report
Last train, Motijheel to Uttara NorthAbout 35 minutesThe 10:10 PM train reached Uttara at about 10:45 PM

Use these journey times together with the metro rail schedule above. For example, if you board the 9:50 PM train at Uttara North, you should reach Motijheel at about 10:25 PM.

Add 5 to 10 minutes for buying a ticket, passing the gate and climbing to the platform. At rush hour, the ticket queue alone can take longer. A Rapid Pass helps you skip that queue.

Compare this with the road. The same Uttara to Motijheel trip by bus or car can take well over an hour in Dhaka traffic. That is why the metro is so popular with students and office workers.

How the Metro Rail Time Schedule Changed Over the Years

The metro has changed its hours many times since it opened. This short history explains why old timetables on social media are often wrong.

  • 28 December 2022: The Uttara North to Agargaon section was opened. Public service started the next day with short hours.
  • 31 May 2023: Trains began running from 8 AM to 8 PM, and Friday became the weekly off day.
  • November 2023: The Agargaon to Motijheel section opened. All 16 stations were working by 31 December 2023.
  • 20 September 2024: Friday service started for the first time.
  • 17 January 2025: Friday trains began at 3:00 PM instead of 3:30 PM.
  • 19 October 2025: First trains moved to 6:30 AM (Uttara North) and 7:15 AM (Motijheel). Last trains moved to 9:30 PM and 10:10 PM.
  • 7 June 2026: Last trains moved 20 minutes later, to 9:50 PM and 10:30 PM, with extra night trips.

DMTCL tends to adjust the metro rail schedule a few times each year, often with only a few days of notice. You can read more about the line’s history on the MRT Line 6 Wikipedia page and the wider Dhaka Metro Rail network page.

Kamalapur Extension: Will the Metro Rail Schedule Change?

Yes, it will. Line-6 is being extended 1.16 km from Motijheel to a new Kamalapur metro station, next to Kamalapur railway station. In September 2026, officials said civil work was 82.28% done and electro-mechanical work was 53% done. They expected the work to finish by 31 December 2026.

Passenger service is expected in early 2027. Reports in mid-2026 said March or April 2027, after night-time trial runs. When it opens, the southern end of the metro rail schedule will move from Motijheel to Kamalapur, and DMTCL will announce new times.

There is also a plan to extend the line about 7.5 km north from Uttara North to Tongi. No opening date has been fixed for that part yet.

Linking the Metro With Bangladesh Railway Trains

Many readers of this site use both the metro and intercity trains. Here is how the metro fits with train travel today.

  • Kamalapur: Motijheel metro station is less than 1 km from Kamalapur railway station. Walk or take a rickshaw. If you come in by commuter train, our Narayanganj to Dhaka train schedule shows the trains that reach Kamalapur.
  • Airport railway station: Trains from Gazipur stop at the Airport station, opposite Shahjalal Airport. It is about 4 to 5 km from the Uttara metro stations, so take a bus, CNG or ride-share. Our Joydebpur to Dhaka train schedule lists those trains.
  • Tejgaon: Tejgaon railway station is about 1 km from Farmgate metro station.
  • Tickets: Metro tickets are not sold in the Rail Sheba app. Buy intercity train seats in the Rail Sheba app for train tickets, and buy metro tickets at the metro station.

When you combine the metro rail schedule with a train timetable, always allow extra time for the walk, the ticket queue and possible delays. If you have a night train from Kamalapur, do not depend on the last metro. Leave a buffer of at least an hour. For intercity trips, our Bangladesh Railway ticket guide explains seats, fares and booking.

Smart Tips to Use the Metro Rail Schedule

A few small habits make metro travel much easier. These tips come from the timetable rules and from common rider problems.

Tips for using the Dhaka metro rail time schedule and avoiding rush hour crowds
  • Beat the rush: Travel before 7:30 AM or after 11:30 AM if your work allows. Trains are calmer and you may get a seat.
  • Reach early for the last train: Ticket counters close before the last train. During the May 2026 holiday, sales stopped at 9:20 PM. Arrive at least 15 minutes early at night.
  • Carry a Rapid Pass: It saves 10% on every trip and lets you skip the single-ticket queue.
  • Plan Friday errands after 3 PM: There are no trains on Friday morning, so use a bus or rickshaw before then.
  • Check notices before holidays: Eid, Puja and national days can bring a special metro rail time schedule.
  • Do not trust old screenshots: Many posts on social media still show 2023 or 2024 hours.

Where to check the latest metro rail schedule

DMTCL announces changes through notices at stations and ticket counters, on its official website and in national newspapers. Before Eid or Puja, look for the special holiday metro rail schedule a few days in advance.

If a notice at your station differs from this guide, follow the notice. The station staff always have the newest metro rail time schedule for that day.

Fares are simple too. The minimum fare is Tk 20 and the full line from Uttara North to Motijheel costs Tk 100. Pass users get 10% off.
